The things turned dramatically in KKR vs CSK encounter at Abu Dhabi. CSK bowled brilliantly throughout the KKR innings and restricted them for 167 even when Rahul Tripathi played a tremendous knock at the top. The right-hander was promoted up the order and he proved his promotion absolutely right with his 81 off 51 balls.
CSK started their chase on a perfect note and at one stage, they needed just 69 runs off 47 balls with 9 wickets remaining and it looked like a one-sided win for CSK. However, KKR made a stunning comeback and pulled things back by dismissing Chennai’s set batsmen and not allowing them to hit big shots. After a mini-collapse, CSK lost the game by 10 runs and with this defeat, they now stand with four losses in six games. If CSK wants to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs, a complete change in their game plan is a must now.
Here are the three mistakes committed by CSK in match 21, KKR vs CSK:-
1. Too many changes in the batting order
MS Dhoni is usually known as a captain who doesn’t make many changes and tries to keep things as simple as possible. However, CSK is having their most difficult season and apparently that led Dhoni to make several changes. The skipper batted up the order and Sam Curran followed him but DJ Bravo, one of their finishers didn’t bat at all. These changes in the batting order brought doubts in batsmen’s mind and for the first time, CSK didn’t look like a settled unit.
2. No one accelerated after Shane Watson
After Shane Watson was dismissed, none of the batsmen tried to play big shots to maintain the run-rate. Thus, the required rate kept on increasing and that led to a panic situation. With wickets falling at one end, CSK wanted someone to hit a couple of big shots to provide the much-needed confidence, but it didn’t happen. Hence, the pressure kept on piling and CSK failed to chase the target down.
3. No intent from Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav is one of the senior members of CSK’s batting line up. He came in at number six when CSK needed 39 off 21 balls. However, he played numerous dot balls and slammed only one boundary in 12 deliveries that he faced. His 7 runs off 12 balls came at a very crucial time and if he had tried to hit some big shots, things could have turned out differently.
