Delhi Capitals ended up on the losing side as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) put up a mesmerizing show at Dubai. DC had a great start to the game as the fortune favoured them at the toss. While bowling first, their pacers set the tone for their bowling unit with three wickets upfront, but they couldn’t continue in the same fashion.
Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana put up an excellent partnership to set massive total on the board for KKR. Chasing 195 was never going to be easy and a middle-order collapse didn’t help either. With this defeat, DC have lost 4 out of their 11 games and they are still a triumph away from ascertaining their playoffs qualification. As two of their remaining three games are against RCB and MI, DC need to work on the on-field blunders that they made.
Here are the mistakes committed by DC in Match 42, KKR vs DC:-
1. Only one over for Axar Patel
Axar Patel has been Delhi’s most economical bowler in IPL 2020. He is in excellent form and his line and length have been impeccable throughout the competition. He bowled an over in the powerplay and gave only seven runs but as soon as the partnership was built between Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana he wasn’t used at all. Though the left-handers usually find it easy to bat against left-arm bowlers, not using your most economical bowler even when others were going for runs was a surprising move.
2. Didn’t bring back strike bowlers as partnership was flourishing
DC is blessed to have two world-class pacers in their set-up. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje have been in great form in this season. However, when an important partnership was stitched between Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine, Shreyas Iyer didn’t use his strike bowlers to pick up a wicket. Instead, he kept their overs for the death and as the KKR batsmen were set in the last overs, both Rabada and Nortje went for serious hammering.
3. The slow start with the bat for DC
Delhi Capitals started poorly as both of their openers departed in no time. However, as the target was more than 190, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant should have played some big shots to accelerate the innings. However, that didn’t happen and in the first ten overs, they scored only 64 runs. With so many runs to get in the last ten overs, the pressure resulted in a massive collapse.
