It’s been two weeks that the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) has hit the floors under strict health protocols in the United Arab Emirates. From nail-biting finishes to high-score drama, many enthralling events have unfolded in front of the eyes of the eternal fans of the game.
With no team winning all their matches till now, it is crystal clear that the 13th edition of the IPL caters a unique enigma altogether. Justifying why the IPL is one of the most competitive cricket tournaments in the world, players appear to have decided not to drop their shoulders till the last ball of the game.
Adding to the bright side of the cash-rich contest is the fact that every player needs to throw their heart out to remain in the playing XI for the next match. On that note, let us look at the players, who might get rewarded in the upcoming week and get an opportunity to don their franchises’ jersey in the cricketing carnival.
So, without any further ado, let us look into the list of the benhced-players in IPL 2020:
1. Karn Sharma (Chennai Super Kings)
The Uttar Pradesh spinner has been on the IPL turf since 2014. His excellent rendition on the 22 yards helped him ink a hefty deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he was traded in by Mumbai Indians in 2016 followed by Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
To everyone’s surprise, the southpaw is the only player to win the IPL trophy cladding three different jerseys. Having scalped 54 wickets with an impressive economy of 7.82, Karn has a pair of magical hands which baffles the opponents.
It is expected that the team management may give him a chance as Chennai Super Kings are currently positioned at the bottom as far as the scorecard tally is concerned. Moreover, the talisman holds the capacity to sail the team across the line of triumph single-handedly.
2. Ishan Porel (Kings XI Punjab)
The Under-19 superstar played a crucial role to steer the team in the right direction as Indian colts went on to clich the trophy in 2018 under the captainship of Prithwi Shaw. The lanky superstar is known for his belligerent persona. Eventually, it gets reflected on his bowling figures at the end of the innings.
The Bengal-boy was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the auction at his base price in the IPL auction 2020. Sharing the dressing room with the likes of Sheldon Cotrell and Mohammad Shami, Ishan will be excited to garner lessons from the best in the business.
The 22-year-old is yet to deliver his first ball in the cricketing carnival. With team management engaged in twiddling their fingers and scratching their heads as the franchise stands lower in the rung, it is believed captain KL Rahul may put his hands on his back and show confidence in the rookie in the third week of the action-packed contest.
3. Mohammad Nabi ( Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The Afghani stalwart grew to limelight for his impeccable performance in the T20 format. Rendering exemplary entertainment with the ball, Nabi drew swanky eyes of the franchise owners all across the world. The 35-year old justifies his hype as he can defend low-totals for his team with sheer brilliance.
The spin-king has picked 11 wickets in 14 matches with an impressive economy of 6.54. Thrown a willow to his hand, he can turn the tide on their side within a wink of the opponent’s eyes. Nabi has scored 146 runs in 14 matches with a stellar strike rate of 147.47. Therefore, the stalwart perfectly fits into the shoes of an all-rounder.
With Sunrisers’ endeavouring hard to do wonders with the bat and ball, Mohammad Nabi may be rewarded a match in the upcoming week. Also, the majestic spinner must be pumped up to showcase his cricketing brain and wits.
4. Tom Banton (Kolkata Knight Riders)
The English top-order decimator never hesitates to display his prowess of power-hitting. Given a chance to bat, Banton can display a propensity of violence but in the cricketing language. Holding a rare potential, the cricketing hunter can leave the opposition flummoxed as far as the fielding set-up is concerned.
With heavy arms indicating his capacity, Tom can destroy any bowling attack with the willow in hand. Having played 80 matches, the dynamo has 1,850 runs under his belt with a stunning strike rate of 138.78.
Despite the fact that the 21-year-old still remains on cards for Kolkata Knight Riders, Tom is one of the favourites to don the purple and gold. He is expected to feature in the playing-XI in the upcoming week. His contribution will help the team inch closer to the coveted trophy.
5. Manan Vohra (Rajasthan Royals)
The stylish top-order batsman radiates a sense of wiliness as his strength is to capitalise on rookie bowlers. The 27-year-old had been piling on the runs from the time he began playing age-group cricket. Possessing confidence to grip matches and absorb pressure, Manan is often a go-to person for his captain.
Bolstering the team with accelerating the pace of the scoreboard, Manan has deposited 1012 runs in 49 matches at an enthralling strike rate of 131.77. The member of the Under-19 winner has the grit and confidence to get the opposition dance to his tunes.
However, of late, Manan Vohra has not been able to cross the hurdle of registering his name into the playing-11 for Rajasthan Royals. If speculations are to be believed, Rajasthan Royals may field the legend in the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians.
