Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar reckoned that Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the two best teams in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran picked the teams, based on current form and the personnel available in their setup. Both Mumbai and Delhi have won five out of their first seven matches and are the top two teams in the points table.
As his third team, he went for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are coming off a shambolic 82-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday, October 12. Agarkar also stated that the Knights got out of jail against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Abu Dhabi.
Ajit Agarkar makes his picks
“It’s such a close tournament, so many ups and downs, but clearly Mumbai Indians & Delhi Capitals look like the two best teams – form-wise and personnel-wise. KKR, in my opinion, got a real bonus win against CSK. They are my third team,” Agarkar was quoted as saying on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.
Agarkar was a tad spilt for choice choosing for his fourth team. The retired pacer found it tough to zero in on between Steve Smith’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) and David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Prior to the tournament, Agarkar believed that the Super Kings could perform well, but MS Dhoni’s men haven’t had the best of times thus far.
“The fourth team for me is between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. I had CSK at the start of the tournament, but at the moment, these two teams look slightly better than what CSK is playing,” he added.
In their first seven games, CSK lost five of them and found themselves in quite a bit of trouble. However, it can raise a lot of eyebrows for the fact that Agarkar didn’t pick Virat Kohli’s RCB among his contenders to make the playoffs.
The Challengers, in their first seven games, won five and are placed in the top-half of the points table. Among the eight participating teams, it’s the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), who have strained the most, being placed at the bottom of the table.
