As the IPL auction is inching closer, more details are coming out about the event. The franchises have submitted a list of 332 players who will go under the hammer out of 971 players who registered. The final list also includes 24 new names including Mushfiqur Rahim, Kesrick Williams and Daniel Christian who were added after the franchises’ request. The 21-year-old Surrey batsman Will Jacks who had smashed a 25-ball century in a pre-season T10 match against the Lancashire in the UAE is also set to go under the hammer
Moreover, these 24 players were not the part of the original draft and were added only after teams requested to do so. Interestingly, Mushfiqur Rahim had opted out of IPL auction but reportedly had agreed to put his name in the list after a request from one of the IPL teams. The auction will be a one-day affair this year and it will commence with a set of seven batsmen which includes Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn, Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan and Robin Uthappa.
73 slots including 29 overseas players to be filled in the IPL auction
A total of 73 maximum slots are to be filled including 29 foreign players and the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins are expected to earn big money. Even Chris Morris has been shortlisted after he was released by the Delhi Capitals in the previous season.
The players have been divided as per their speciality and the auction will start from batsmen, allrounders, wicketkeeper-batsmen, fast bowlers and spinners according to ESPNCricinfo. The event will commence with the different sets of capped players and then it will be followed by the uncapped players.
Among overseas players, Maxwell, Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, Dale Steyn, and Angelo Mathews have listed their base price Rs 2 Crores. As far as the Indians are concerned, Robin Uthappa is expected to be in the spotlight and he has listed his base price to Rs 1.5 crore. The KKR released him after an indifferent season earlier this year.
Another player who will expect his price to go big is Jaydev Unadkat. He was the most expensive Indian player at the last auction with the Rajasthan Royals securing his services for Rs 8.4 crore. But he failed to live up to the expectations for the second consecutive year.
However, the left-arm pacer has found his groove at the right time as he delivered a match-winning spell of 6/51 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy against Himachal Pradesh in the 2nd innings. He finished the game with nine wickets and has listed his base price to Rs 1 crore this time. The full list is expected to be released on the official IPL website on Thursday.
