Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), yet another time, found themselves on the verge of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. However, the team, captained by KL Rahul, held their nerve and secured their second win of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
On Thursday, October 15, Punjab beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The game went right down to the last ball and RCB almost came back strong. For KXIP, despite winning, they stayed at the bottom of the points table.
As far as the Challengers are concerned, they stayed at the third position. After batting first, the Challengers notched 171 for the loss of six wickets. KXIP dominated for the most part and after a stutter in the run-chase, they got over the line.
Here are the KXIP Player Ratings for the RCB vs KXIP match: –
KL Rahul- 9/10
KL Rahul played the waiting game while batting. He started cautiously, but on realising that the required rate was escalating, he used the long handle to good effect. He got to his half-century off 37 balls and stayed unbeaten on 61 off 49 balls. His knock was laced with one four and five sixes.
Mayank Agarwal- 9/10
Mayank Agarwal was the primary reason why KXIP notched 56 for no loss in the mandatory powerplay. The right-hander smashed 45 runs off 25 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. Yuzvendra Chahal cut short his stay in the middle. Mayank went across the line and was castled.
Chris Gayle- 9/10
Chris Gayle looked rusty after he played his first competitive game after the month of January. The southpaw looked a tad indifferent to start with. But once he got his eyes in, there was no stopping the Universe Boss. The 41-year-old notched 53 runs off 45 balls with the help of one four and five sixes.
Nicholas Pooran- 5/10
Nicholas Pooran didn’t have anything to do whatsoever in the match until the last ball. He came in with the Punjab team needing one run off the final delivery. He was playing first his first delivery, but he didn’t allow nerves to get the better of him. He hit Chahal for a six to seal the deal for his team.
Glenn Maxwell- 7/10
Glenn Maxwell has had to face a lot of flak for his indifferent performance with the bat in hand. This time around, he didn’t a chance to bat due to some dominant show from the KXIP top-order batters. With the ball, the Victorian didn’t disappoint as he gave away 28 runs in the four overs he bowled.
Deepak Hooda- N/A
Chris Jordan- 8.5/10
Chris Jordan hasn’t had the best of tournaments with the ball in hand. But the fast bowler was able to make some sort of amends. He didn’t complete his quota of four overs but bowled at an economy rate of 6.66. The speedster also got the wicket of Shivam Dube, who scored a 19-ball 23.
Murugan Ashwin- 9.5/10
Murugan Ashwin was outstanding, to say the least. In his four overs, he gave away only 23 runs at an economy of 5.75. The leg-spinner castled Aaron Finch to open his wickets column. Thereafter, he got rid of Washington Sundar, who batted at number four. The tweaker also bowled seven dot balls.
Ravi Bishnoi- 6/10
Ravi Bishnoi didn’t quite have the most ideal night with the ball in hand. He bowled only three overs and conceded 29 runs at an economy rate of 9.66 to go with six dot balls. The young leg-spinner was smashed for one four and two sixes. The prodigy would wish to perform better next time around.
Mohammed Shami- 8/10
Mohammed Shami bowled with fire and venom in his first three overs. He also got rid of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the same over to put the brakes on the RCB scoring rate. But he leaked quite a few runs in his last over. In four overs, Shami went for 45 runs at an economy rate of 11.25.
Arshdeep Singh- 7/10
Arshdeep Singh bowled only a couple of overs on the day and was reasonable. He picked up the important wicket of Devdutt Padikkal, who was looking ominous at 18 off 12. In his spell, the left-arm fast bowler gave 20 runs and also bowled three dot balls. The youngster conceded three fours.
