Mumbai Indians (MI) continued with their dream run in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), notching their fifth victory in succession. Moreover, Rohit Sharma and Co, yet another time, went to the top of the points table on a superior net run rate.
The Mumbai-based franchise annihilated the Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Knights’ decision to bat fired backfired as MI sent half their side back to the hut with not much on the board.
Despite Pat Cummins’ 36-ball 53* and skipper Eoin Morgan’s 39*, KKR could only manage 148 for five on the board. In their run-chase, MI came out firing on all cylinders and didn’t allow any sort of pressure to build. In the end, they chased the target down with 19 balls to spare.
Here are the MI Player Ratings for the MI vs KKR match: –
Rohit Sharma- 7/10
Rohit Sharma was pretty subdued during his knock, though he smashed five glorious boundaries and one six. The 33-year-old could only manage 35 runs off 36 balls at a strike-rate of 97.22. Shivam Mavi cut short his knock in the 11th over. Mavi found the right-hander’s outside edge and dismissed him.
Quinton de Kock- 9.5/10
Quinton de Kock was on top of his game, especially during MI’s run-chase. The left-hander threw the bat at everything and got to his half-century off 25 balls. He batted until the very end, seeing his team over the line. In the end, De Kock stayed unbeaten on 78 off 44 with nine fours and three sixes.
Suryakumar Yadav- 4/10
Suryakumar Yadav played a lot of strokes in his knock without much result. He smacked a four to get going. But he could only manage a run-a-ball 10 before getting out. He tried to play an audacious sweep shot off Varun Chakravarthy. However, to his dismay, he was castled by the off-break bowler.
Ishan Kishan- N/A
Hardik Pandya- 7.5/10
Hardik Pandya came to bat when MI needed 38 runs at a tad less than a run-a-ball. In the 16th over, the right-hander got stuck into Cummins. Pandya hit a couple of fours and then deposited the speedster over long-leg for a six. He also hit the winning shot and stayed not out on 21 off 11 balls.
Kieron Pollard- N/A
Krunal Pandya- 8.5/10
Krunal Pandya didn’t pick up a wicket, but he didn’t give any many runs either. The left-arm spinner maintained tight lines and lengths and didn’t allow the batters to pounce on him. In his four overs, the southpaw gave away a mere 23 runs at 5.75. Moreover, he churned out 11 dot deliveries.
Rahul Chahar- 9.5/10
Rahul Chahar was the standout bowler for MI without much of a doubt. The leg-spinner put the brakes on the run-scoring and gave away only 18 runs in four overs at an excellent economy of 4.50 to go with 13 dots. The tweaker also pinned Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill off consecutive balls.
Trent Boult- 8/10
Trent Boult bowled with accuracy and didn’t give much away to the batters. He started his spell, getting rid of Rahul Tripathi, who perished to a stupendous catch from Suryakumar. In his four overs, the left-arm bowler gave away 32 runs. He also bowled 10 dot balls to keep a check on run-scoring.
Jasprit Bumrah- 9/10
Jasprit Bumrah got the prized wicket of Andre Russell, who again failed after getting into the double figures. He was accurate as he bowled as many as 12 dot balls, conceding 22 runs in four overs at an excellent economy of 5.50. Among the fast bowlers, the lanky bowler was the standout performer.
Nathan Coulter-Nile- 5/10
Nathan Coulter-Nile replaced James Pattinson, who was rested, for the match and he had a rough time. The speedster got rid of Nitish Rana when the batsman went for a pull only to hit the ball to the keeper. But later the pacer was taken apart as he conceded 51 runs in four overs at 12.75.
