Mumbai Indians (MI) have made their way into the playoffs of the 2020 edition of the IPL, though not mathematically, but realistically. The team, led by Kieron Pollard, have 16 points with a net run rate of +1.186- the best among all the other teams in the championship.
On Wednesday, October 18, MI beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. From electing to field first, Mumbai stuttered a wee bit after RCB blazed away in the powerplay, courtesy the opening wicket stand of 71 between Devdutt Padikkal and Josh Philippe
But then, they made a stupendous comeback. In the end, they chased the target of 165 with five balls to spare. As far as Virat Kohli’s Challengers are concerned, they stayed in the second position in the points table.
Here are the MI Player Ratings for the MI vs RCB match:
Quinton de Kock- 4/10
Quinton de Kock didn’t have the best of days with the bat. The left-hander smashed a humongous six over the leg-side and could only manage 18 runs off 19 balls before Mohammed Siraj dismissed him.
Ishan Kishan- 5.5/10
Ishan Kishan played his shots right from the word go. He smacked three fours and one six and looked ominous. The southpaw notched 25 off 19 balls after which he became Yuzvendra Chahal’s victim.
Suryakumar Yadav- 9.5/10
Suryakumar Yadav was stupendous, to say the least. He came to bat after de Kock’s dismissal and stepped on the gas. He stayed unbeaten on 79 off 43 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.
Saurabh Tiwary- 1.5/10
Saurabh Tiwary batted at number four and came in after Kishan’s dismissal. To his dismay, he could never get going. After scoring five runs off eight balls he fell prey to Siraj while going for a big shot.
Krunal Pandya- 7/10
Krunal Pandya didn’t pick up a wicket, but he didn’t leak runs either. The left-arm spinner gave 27 runs in his four overs with eight dots. With the bat in hand, the left-hander scored 10 runs at a run-a-ball.
Kieron Pollard- 7/10
Kieron Pollard scored a four in the only ball he faced and stayed not out. With his medium pace, he bowled only a solitary over. But in those six balls, he made an impact, getting rid of AB de Villiers.
Hardik Pandya- 6.5/10
Hardik Pandya came to bat with MI pretty much on the driver’s seat. He smashed a couple of sixes to score 17 runs off 15 balls. The right-hander perished to Chris Morris while going for an ambitious shot.
James Pattinson- 2.5/10
James Pattinson turned out to be the most expensive bowler for MI on the day. The pacer gave away 35 runs in his three overs. He failed to the extent that he wasn’t entrusted to complete his quota of overs.
Rahul Chahar- 5/10
Rahul Chahar got the prized wicket of Josh Philippe, getting him stumped when the latter was looking dangerous. But the leg-spinner went for 43 runs in his spell of four overs and looked a tad out of sorts.
Trent Boult- 5/10
Trent Boult turned out to be expensive with the ball in hand. The left-arm pacer went for 40 runs in his quota of four overs with 10 dot balls. Though he dismissed Chris Morris, it was only to mitigate the damage.
Jasprit Bumrah- 9.5/10
Jasprit Bumrah was a tough nut to crack. The talented speedster bowled as many as 15 dot balls and gave away 14 runs with one maiden. He also got Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube’s wicket.
