Kolkata Knight Riders kept their hopes alive on a playoff berth after a huge 60-run win against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai. Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi added 73 for the 2nd wicket in only 8.1 overs but three ducks in top five saw Kolkata reduced to 99/5. Later, an unbeaten 68 off 35 from Eoin Morgan powered KKR to a huge total of 191/7.
Rajasthan tried to finish the chase quickly to improve their NRR as they hit 18 runs in the first four balls of the chase. However, Pat Cummins ran through the RR’s batting with a 4-wicket haul in the powerplay itself. Royal could not recover after losing five wickets for 37 runs in five overs and could only post 131/9 in their 20 overs.
Here are all statistical highlights from Kolkata Knight Riders’ 60-run win during KKR vs RR:
Royals finish at the bottom:
1 – Rajasthan Royals ended at the bottom of the points table for the first time in the IPL. They needed to get past 162 during KKR vs RR for edging over Chennai Super Kings’ net run-rate. By finishing at the bottom, Royals became the first-ever title winners of IPL to bag wooden spoon as well. Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers bagged the bottom spot before winning their maiden title.
KKR’s dominance over the Royals:
6-1 – Kolkata Knight Riders have got a win-loss record of 6-1 against the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL since the start of 2018. The last year’s 4-wicket win at the Eden Gardens was the only time the Royals got the better of KKR since their readmission to the league. Kolkata won only 6 of the nine meetings against RR until 2015.
Cummins stars with the ball:
4 – Pat Cummins claimed all his four wickets during the KKR vs RR in the powerplay overs itself. He is only the 5th player in IPL history to pick four or more catches in first six overs during a match. Cummins is also the 2nd KKR player with this feat after Shoaib Akhtar who took four wickets on his IPL debut in 2008 against DD.
6 – Cummins became only the 6th player in IPL history to claim a 4-wicket haul, hit a six and take a catch; all in the same IPL match. The other five players with this triple are Yuvraj Singh (5 sixes, 4/29 and 1 catch vs DD in 2011), Kevon Cooper (1 six, 4/26 and 2 catches vs KXIP in 2012), Kieron Pollard (4 sixes, 4/44 and 1 catch vs RR in 2012), JP Duminy (2 sixes, 4/17 and 2 catches vs SRH in 2015) and David Wiese (2 sixes, 4/33 and 1 catch vs MI in 2015).
Multiple records as keeper for Karthik:
3 – Dinesh Karthik became the first wicketkeeper in IPL history of IPL with four or more dismissals in a match on three different instances. His previous two instances came for DD and KKR respectively in 2009 and 2018 which were also against Rajasthan Royals.
110 – The four catches during KKR vs RR have helped Dinesh Karthik to go past MS Dhoni (109) in the list of most catches as a wicketkeeper in the IPL with 110 catches.
A lucky venue for Morgan:
55.14 – Eoin Morgan has a batting average of 55.14 while playing at the Dubai International Stadium in the Twenty20 format. The KKR skipper has scored 386 runs across 12 innings at this venue with help of three fifties. Only KL Rahul (56.00) has a higher batting average than Morgan in T20s at the Dubai Stadium. (Min: 200 runs)
Yet another golden duck for Rana:
3 – Nitish Rana has bagged golden ducks in three of his last five innings and scored 80+ runs in the other two games. Rana is now the first player to bag as many three golden ducks in an IPL edition while representing Kolkata Knight Riders. His three ducks are the joint-most in an IPL season for KKR. Even Dinesh Karthik has been dismissed three times without scoring in the IPL 2020.
Karthik’s spree of low scores:
9 – Dinesh Karthik has been dismissed for single figures in nine matches this season which are the joint-most times any player got out before reaching double-digits. Deepak Hooda also got out nine times in the 2016 edition before he reached 10 runs while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
