Continuing their stellar form in the on-going IPL 2020, Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals registered a convincing 59-run victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. After amassing a dominant 196-run total on the board, DC restricted RCB to 137, and eventually bagged their fourth victory of the tournament.
Capitals delivered an impressive batting show and it started with Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan amassing 68-run opening partnership. In the end, Marcus Stoinis smoked a quick-fire 53 off 26 deliveries and Rishabh Pant gathered a 25-ball 37, guiding Delhi to a daunting total of 196 runs.
In the second innings, DC’s bowling force, led by Kagiso Rabada, restricted RCB to 137. After their dominant show against Virat Kohli-led side, DC also clinched the top position in the points table. Following DC’s emphatic victory, former England skipper heaped praise on vital batting knocks of Stoinis and Pant.
“He had never quite done it. He had never quite got to the level you would think he can … That is his best innings I have seen … It was a masterclass in power hitting, he also played a couple of nice finesse shots as well.
We spoke about how Rishabh has become a mature player over the course of the tournament. He played a kind of second string in the partnership by just knocking the ball around and making sure Stoinis get back on strike… Rishabh is maturing as a player,” said Vaughan on Cricbuzz Live.
It was a typical RCB performance: Michael Vaughan
Furthermore, Vaughan also pointed out the flaws in Bangalore’s batting force. Over-reliance on skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers has been one of RCB’s flaws for many years, according to the England veteran.
“Virat and AB [de Villiers], they are so reliant on that powerhouse, brilliant players that they are. [They] just need a little more help from around them. It was a typical RCB performance, I’m afraid. You cannot compete in T20 cricket with just one or two players arriving, you need six, seven, eight,” he further said.
Vaughan concluded by pointing out the difference between both sides. Labelling DC as a ‘real team’, Vaughan lauded their efforts in all three departments.
“You look at Delhi today, they looked like a real team. Everything was together, they had good combinations with the bowling, with the batting, they moved well in the field. They were like chalk and cheese,” concluded Vaughan.
