The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going on in all glory, and all the teams are giving their best to get over the line. However, a recent deleted Tweet from Mumbai Indians (MI) has sparked a controversy in the cricket world. Fans on Twitter are alleging the defending champions for ‘fixing’ things, whereas it was just a mistake from MI’s social media team. In the 27th match of the cash-rich league, MI took on Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi.
Winning the toss, Delhi came up with willow first and posted a respectable 162/4 on the board. Ajinkya Rahane walked the field in place of Rishabh Pant, and Alex Carey was seen in place of Shimron Hetmyer. The star batsman Shikhar Dhawan got his rhythm back and smashed a brilliant half-century to turn the team’s score in a reasonable spot. Skipper Shreyas Iyer also played a great knock to lend his support to the team.
Chasing the target, Mumbai Indians turned successful as Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav were stunning for their team. They scored 53 runs each from their bat to set the tone for defending champions, and they won the game by five wickets. However, in the latest turn of events, MI faced the backlash on Twitter for tweeting DC’s score in the first over of their innings itself.
It is a known fact that teams are giving their level best irrespective of their positions on the point table. The fans and franchises are pretty active on social media to track every activity going in the relevant area. The tweet which is being talked about the most was made after the first over of the DC’s innings when James Pattinson was handed over the new ball.
However, mistakenly, MI’s Twitter handle copy pasted Rajasthan Royals’ score from the previous game, which read – 163/5 after 19.5 overs). Correcting the mistake, the tweet was deleted soon but it was enough for the netizens to spark a controversy related to match-fixing.
Here’s the tweet:
However, DC finished very close scoring 162/4 and looking at such on-point similarities, fans went gaga over the same. While some of them are enjoying the blunder made by MI’s social media handle, few are accusing the three-time champions of fixing the game.
