The former cricketer Sanjay Bangar’s days with Team India seem to be numbered. Vikram Rathour is set to replace him as the batting coach after the ongoing West Indies tour. At the same time, the coaching staff appointments are currently in progress amongst the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is also not behind in this aspect and are likely to appoint Bangar the batting coach of the team.
The franchise named Mike Hesson, who lost India’s head coach job to Ravi Shastri recently, the Director of Cricket of the RCB. Even Simon Katich has been appointed the head coach of the team and will be working with the captain Virat Kohli in the next season. Katich was with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) until the last season as the assistant coach and the franchise parted ways with him after a poor 2019 season.
Franchise tightlipped about other coaches
The RCB officials are tightlipped about Sanjay Bangar‘s appointment though but according to Times of India, the sources have confirmed the same. Also, Virat Kohli’s association with Bangar after being with Team India for a long time is likely to work in the latter’s favour.
While addressing the appointment of Hesson and Katich, the RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala was excited to have two of the former cricketers with a wealth of coaching experience behind them. The RCB finished last in the points table earlier this year and haven’t qualified for the playoffs in the previous three editions.
“RCB’s constant endeavour is to create a culture of excellence and high performance for every member of the team. To deliver this ambition we are very happy to announce the appointment of Mike Hesson and Simon Katich. We believe that Mike’s extensive experience in building strong teams along with Simon’s powerful cricket experience will help us create a winning culture,” he said in an RCB media release.
