The auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is all set to get underway in the next few hours in Kolkata. After 971 players registered for the event, the franchises shortlisted them to around 332 and these many cricketers are set to go under the hammer. However, six more players have been added late to the auction pool which includes Vinay Kumar, Ashoke Dinda, Matthew Wade, Robin Bist, Sanjay Yadav and Jake Weatherald.
Vinay Kumar was with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) a couple of seasons ago and was released ahead of the 2019 edition. He had played only a couple of matches for the team in the previous season and to make matters worse, the pace bowler went unsold in the auction last year. While he didn’t play the IPL 2019, Kumar wasn’t even shortlisted for the upcoming auction.
However, it seems that one of the franchises wants to secure his services which has led to his name getting added in the list.
Wade and Weatherald might attract huge bids in the IPL auction
Sportstar confirmed the news of six players being added to the auction list late on Wednesday and a couple of Australian players would be hoping to make their IPL debut. Matthew Wade has been exceptional, to say the least, for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) and boasts of a strike-rate of 129.75 in the 115 T20s he has played.
Jake Weatherald too has been impressive for the Adelaide Strikers and has amassed 828 runs in the 33 T20s at a decent strike-rate of 127.77. Interestingly, both Wade and Weatherald are the openers in the shortest format and it remains to be seen which team bids for the duo as many of them have settled combination at the top.
Meanwhile, Ashoke Dinda’s name is also surprising for many as he last played in the cash-rich tournament in 2017 and went unsold in the previous two editions. With the six players being added to the auction list, a total of 338 players will now go under the hammer in Kolkata on Wednesday.
