Indian Premier League 2020 is surrounded by the clouds of uncertainty due to COVID-19 pandemic. The fans want that BCCI should go ahead with the tournament. At the moment, the situation demands that no cricket should be played on the sake of players’ life. The cricketers have also shown their eagerness for playing in the same. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins gave his opinion saying that he is ready to play in the IPL behind the closed doors as well.
In IPL 2020 auction, Pat Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders after paying a whopping fee of INR 15.50 Crore. He emerged as the costliest player in the auction including the overseas and Indian players. The 26-year-old is bowling in the form of his life and he was recently nominated as one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year.
However, after having a great auction, the chances are quite slim that the fans will get to watch Cummins magic with the ball as it is still uncertain that the tournament will be played due to the poor conditions. The players are coming out with different suggestions and Cummins has also joined the bandwagon.
Pat Cummins gives his opinion on IPL 2020
The 26-year-old bowler has said that if IPL is played without the spectators behind closed doors then also it will be a great event. As per him, the crowd will be missed in that case but at least they will get to watch the tournament on television.
There is no doubt that players will miss IPL if it gets cancelled according to the number one Test bowler in the world. Cummins also recited that the first priority should be to save lives. In his opinion, the next big thing will be to move towards the normality that has dealt with a major blow after Coronavirus came into the picture.
“The first priority is safety but the second one is getting back to normality, finding that balance. If that, unfortunately, means no crowds for a while, then that is that, but hopefully, people can watch at home on TV. It will be missed in the short term if it can’t happen, but I have no doubt it will be a great event even if it has to be played without crowds,” Pat Cummins said as quoted by The New Indian Express.
