It looks like the COVID is affecting the preparations of a few IPL teams. In the series of players who are infected by the virus, the latest name to join the list is Daniel Sams. The Aussie all-rounder has been tested positive for COVID-19 as per RCB. This is a major shock because Sams is a talented all-rounder and could have been an asset to RCB’s plans.
As per RCB, Sams tested negative on April 3rd in Chennai. But, on the 7th of April, he tested positive. Currently, Sams is asymptomatic and now will be monitored by the RCB team. He has to follow the BCCI health protocols. He is now quarantined in his hotel room and his fellow teammates Zampa and Richardson are yet to arrive in India to join the squad.
This opens up a spot in the probable RCB playing eleven. The all-rounder might miss a few games and hence the management can look forward to including an overseas player in the squad. As RCB has a strong bench strength, captain Kohli has a variety of options to choose from.
Here are three Players who can replace Daniel Sams in RCB’s XI
3. Finn Allen
Finn Allen is the newest addition to the fearless Kiwi squad. Recently, he scored a magnificent 71 from 29 balls to destroy the Bangladeshi attack. As Finn plays with such freedom, he might get a chance in the playing eleven. It is almost certain that Virat Kohli will open the innings for RCB and with Finn Allen at the top, it should be an exciting combination to watch.
As Finn went after the bowlers during his knock of 71, he smashed ten fours and three sixes. Adding on, he scored his half-century off just 18 balls. This is a record as this was the second joint-fastest fifty by a New Zealander. Therefore, with the absence of Sams, it is more of an opportunity for the RCB management to look for strengthening their batting.
Maxwell can bowl four overs if required. Hence, to cover up the bowling department, Maxwell is qualified enough to fill in the shoes of Sams. Even though Finn has played only three T20Is, his approach to the game is exciting. Hence, with a strike rate of 220, he is one of the contenders as a cover-up option for Sams.
2. Daniel Christian
Daniel Christian is a T20 veteran who should have played over 100 IPL games. But, unfortunately, he has played only 40 matches. He has returned to the RCB squad after 8 years. Daniel Christian is a useful player in limited-overs cricket. Under any conditions, he can take control of the situation.
In his IPL career, he has played 40 games and has scored only 446 runs. But as he bats way down the order, do not let the stats misjudge you. Dan has a strike rate of 11925 and is yet to score a half-century or a century in the IPL. He has a poor batting record mostly because of a lack of chances.
Talking about his bowling, he has a good record. With 34 wickets in 40 games, he bowls his full quota of four overs. Apart from that, he has an impressive economy rate of 7.95. This means that Virat Kohli can use him to bowl the middle overs. Well, he is a perfect T20 player.
1. Kane Richardson
Kane Richardson has been in the T20 arena for quite some time now. Since he signed up with the Adelaide stickers for the 2010-2011 season of the BBL, he has been one of the star performers for them. But he was overshadowed by the rise of Mitchell Starc. Therefore, he has played only 26 T20Is and 25 ODIs for Australia.
Richardson is the perfect replacement for Sams if the RCB management will be looking forward to strengthening their bowling lineup. In 14 IPL games, he has picked 18 wickets. This showcases that he has a knack for picking up wickets at regular intervals. Adding on, he has the best bowling figures of 3/13 in the IPL.
Richardson can open the bowling and bowl at the death. For a team that has struggled at the death, the inclusion of Richardson will strengthen their bowling attack. He has an economy rate of 8.38, which is decent for a bowler who bowls at the back end of the innings. Because of his wicket-taking skills and RCB’s issues with bowling combination, he is the perfect replacement for Sams.
