There are some incidents on a cricket field that just catches the attention of the viewers. Something similar happened with Krunal Pandya during the opening match of the Indian Premier League 2021. The incident went on to be one of the most talked-about moments during the first innings of the clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
While the senior Pandya was batting, a ball from Kyle Jamieson broke the bat of the southpaw. The incident happened in the second last over of the innings when the New Zealander, making his IPL debut, was bowling at some serious pace. Jamieson bowled a no-ball and the next ball was called a free hit.
Jamieson, as most fast-bowlers would do, decided to bowl a dead yorker on the leg stump line. The yorker landed perfectly and Krunal failed to get a big hit. However, the left-handed batsman, in an attempt to dig out the yorker, broke his bat. The bat broke in a fashion that handle was in his hands while the blade went out of place.
Harshal Patel’s five-for ensures Mumbai end with a par score of 159
The Baroda all-rounder was seen making fun of the situation. Jamieson got over after that as well, making sure that Mumbai Indians didn’t get too many runs in the death overs. The video of the incident of Krunal’s bat breaking was uploaded by a fan on Twitter.

After getting off to a good start and continuing the momentum in the middle overs, Mumbai Indians failed to finish the innings. Chris Lynn’s 35-ball 49 along with contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan propelled Mumbai to a total of 159 for 9. The chief architect of RCB’s comeback was Harshal Patel, who picked up five wickets.
The Haryana all-rounder bowled a superb last over and picked up his maiden five-for. He gave only 27 runs in his four overs, addressing RCB’s death overs issues on this occasion. Even Jamieson did well on his IPL debut conceding only 27 runs in his four overs and picked one wicket.
