A total of 292 players will go under the hammer in the auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The BCCI have already released the list of the players along with their base price for the much-anticipated event that is scheduled to take place on February 18 in Chennai. The auction will be a mini one and will give all eight teams an opportunity to bolster their squads.
Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore have maximum vacancies in their squad and need to buy 11 players to complete their squad. Kings XI Punjab, on the other hand, has the highest available purse of Rs 53.2 Crore for the second-highest vacancies (9). Sunrisers Hyderabad has the least number of vacancies and needs to buy only 3 players to complete their squad.
Players with a base price of Rs 1 crore
The 292 players have been divided into a total of eight categories depending on their base price. The highest slab is Rs 2 crore, followed by Rs 1.5 crore, Rs 1 crore, Rs 75 lakh, Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, Rs 30 lakh, and Rs 20 lakh. Ahead of the auction, we are taking a look at the players who have set their base price at Rs 1 crore.
This list has two Indian players in the form of Umesh Yadav and Hanuma Vihari. Umesh had plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 and was released last month. Vihari, on the other hand, last played in IPL in 2019 when he plied his trade for Delhi Capitals before being released. He went unsold in the last auction.
The other notable names in the list are Australian stars Marnus Labuschagne and Aaron Finch. Labuschagne has registered his name in the IPL auction for the first time while Finch would be hoping that he gets another chance to prove himself in the IPL after failing to impress in IPL 2020. The Australia skipper had played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last edition. Overall, the list has 11 players – two players each from India and West Indies, six from Australia, and one from Bangladesh.
