It was a Jos Buttler special at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as Rajsthan Royals scripted a mesmerizing win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 55 runs. Entering the contest, Sunrisers Hyderbad made some tough decisions as they sacked David Warner to appoint Kane Williamson as the new skipper of the side.
The toss went Kane’s way and he decided to field first. SRH made three changes as they dropped David Warner, Jagadeesha Suchith, and Siddarth Kaul with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Nabi and Abdul Samad coming in respectively. RR, on the other hand, also made two changes as they included Kartik Tyagi and Anuj Rawat in the playing XI.
Batting first, RR got off to a torrid start as they lost their opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third over while he was batting on 12. This was followed by Jos Buttler steamrolling the SRH bowlers as he hammered the ball all over the park like anything. The opening batter scored his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he smashed 124 runs in just 64 balls.
RR put up a disciplined bowling effort
Buttler’s knock included 11 boundaries and eight maximums at a strike rate of 193.75. Jos was aptly supported by skipper Sanju Samson who added 48 runs to the scoreboard in 33 deliveries. The exploits by the England superstar resulted in the Royals posting a massive total of 220 runs in their 20 overs.
For SRH, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, and Vijay Shankar took one wicket each. It was a bad day at the office for the Orange Army. Firstly they looked sloppy on the field while bowling and gave a lot of lifelines to the RR batters. This was followed by SRH having a torrid outing with the willow too.
Chasing 221, SRH experienced a decent start as Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow scored 31 and 30 runs respectively. However, Manish Pandey’s wicket in the seventh over initiated a collapse of SRH’s batting line-up. Owing to a disciplined bowling effort by RR, SRH lost wickets at regular intervals. Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman were the picks of the bowlers for Rajasthan as they picked three wickets each.
