The role of the wicketkeeper in any format of the game plays a vital part. Especially in a T20 tournament like the IPL and a single mistake by a wicketkeeper can result in big damage to the team’s chances in a game. On the other hand, a brilliant piece of effort by the wicketkeeper can help the team dominate the opposition. These things actually matter the most in the crucial stage of the game. In this article, we will be listing out 5 wicketkeepers who have effected the most dismissals in their IPL career.
5. Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha is considered among the best keepers behind the wicket in international cricket right now. He has shown his skills with the gloves in IPL as well. He has effected a total of 76 dismissals in the cash-rich league including 56 catches and 20 stumpings. He performed brilliantly with the bat for SRH at the top of the order in last season.
4. Parthiv Patel
The veteran Indian keeper announced his retirement from all forms of the game last year. He was part of the RCB squad in IPL 2020 but did not get a single game in the season. He has featured for 6 different teams in the league history. Parthiv has a total of 81 dismissals to his name behind the wicket, among which 65 are catches and the rest are stumpings.
3. Robin Uthappa
Though Robin Uthappa has not regularly kept wickets for his IPL teams, he possesses impressive numbers with the gloves. He has effected 90 dismissals in the league history so far, out of which 58 are catches and 32 are stumpings. In fact, he is at the second spot among keepers in terms of most stumpings in the league. Given he is part of CSK in IPL 2021, he won’t have to perform the wicketkeeping duties with MS Dhoni already present as primary keeper in the playing XI.
2. Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is among the most experienced players of the cash-rich league. He has played a total of 196 IPL games, in which he has effected 140 dismissals including 110 catches and 30 stumpings. He holds the record for taking the most catches behind the wicket in the tournament history. Karthik stepped down from captaincy duties of KKR mid-season last year.
1. MS Dhoni
The former Indian captain MS Dhoni has proved his mettle as a wicketkeeper in his long career. He has recorded the most number of dismissals (148) in IPL. Among these, 109 are catches and the rest 39 are stumpings. Dhoni has played as a specialist wicketkeeper in all the seasons of IPL from the very start in 2008. He played a pivotal role in CSK’s success over the years both as a captain and a keeper.
