Mike Hesson, earlier this week, parted ways with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and confirmed the news by putting up a message on his official Twitter handle. Many were surprised with this move as the former New Zealand head coach was expected to complete his two-year contract at the helm with the franchise. Now, the support staff has also followed suit and the bowling, fielding and assistant coach has resigned from their respective positions.
Hesson’s sacking, in particular, comes as a surprise as the man himself was confident of continuing as the head coach of the KXIP after an underwhelming 2019 season. He had met the franchise co-owner Ness Wadia and was looking forward to coach the team in the upcoming IPL edition as well.
But with his resignation, the entire coaching staff has put in their papers. The fielding coach Craig McMillan, bowling coach Ryan Harris and the assistant coach Sridharan Sriram have left their jobs according to Mumbai Mirror. When Mike Hesson was contacted over the matter, he refused to comment and stated that the franchise should be contacted for further details.
Ness Wadia didn’t respond
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Mirror tried contacting Ness Wadia to get more details on the same but he didn’t respond to the query. However, the franchise official confirmed that the coaches have resigned from their positions on their own volition.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge. Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I’m sure success isn’t too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future,” Hesson had earlier mentioned confirming about him parting ways with the KXIP.
Moreover, if the reports in the New Zealand media are to be believed, Mike Hesson is the favourite contender to become the head coach of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Both the teams are in the need of the good coach after they didn’t renew contracts of Steve Rhodes and Mickey Arthur respectively.
