Albeit some top cricketers are still reluctant to tour Pakistan, international cricket is slowly, but surely making its way to the Asian country. Recently, Sri Lanka played an ODI and T20I series, and the visitors’ players were more or less satisfied with the security arrangements. After the completion of the tour, Shehan Jayasuriya, the Lankan all-rounder, posted a picture, wearing a Pakistan jersey.
Even as the tour went on without any hassle, more good news awaits cricket in Pakistan. It has been learned that Ireland may come soon to the nation to play an international series. Moreover, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that even England may visit Pakistan in 2022.
Another massive development in Pakistan
Recently, ECB chief executive Tom Harrison and Cricket Ireland chief Warren Deutrom visited Pakistan. The duo went to Islamabad and Lahore and were pretty satisfied about some of the initiatives taken by the local authorities, terming them as impressive.
“Speaking in the 16-minute sixth episode of the PCB podcast, Harrison said he was taking all the information home as it would help in considering fulfilling England cricket team’s obligation in 2022, while Deutrom indicated that Ireland may soon visit Pakistan for an international series,” a PCB press release was quoted as saying.
It was the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) who invited them to come and look at the security provisions that are put in place to host big cricket international events. Harrison now wishes to put a plan in place for the tour to finally happen.
We love hosting Pakistan
“Now we need to take all that information home and start building towards a plan to put in place over the next few years to make it safe for us to consider coming here and fulfilling that obligation in the second half of 2022,” Harrison mentioned.
In July 2020, Pakistan will play Ireland in a couple of T20Is after which they’ll go to England. There, they will take part in three Tests and as many T20Is Internationals, starting July 30. Harrison also sounded confident about the engagement between England cricket’s community and Pakistan team.
“We love hosting Pakistan. It’s been fun to see the engagement of our English cricket community with the Pakistan team, particularly in the short format. We have seen incredible support for the T20 Internationals. We have obviously seen the one-day series that proceeded the 2019 ICC World Cup which was absolutely brilliant,” he added.
