Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan’s mother passed away on Thursday, May 18 due to prolonged illness. Thereafter, the youngster dropped in an emotional tweet, calling her “my home”. Recently, he also sent out a message, asking his fans to pray for his mother’s well-being. In the last few weeks, the internet has been flooded with people, passing away due to various reasons.
The COVID-19 has also accounted for the lives of many. For Rashid, the situation hasn’t gotten any easier. Back in December 2018, he lost his father, who he called “his most important person in his life”. For the time being, Rashid has found it difficult to comprehend that his mother is no more.
The 21-year-old took to Twitter and wrote, “You were my home my mother I had no home but you. I can’t believe you are no more with me you will missed forever . Rest In Peace #MOTHER.”

After the news broke, cricketers from around the world tried to console him with some heartfelt messages. Even the Adelaide Strikers and Sunrisers Hyderabad , for whom he plays in the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) respectively, sent in their condolence.
Irfan Pathan, the former Indian cricketer, also sent his condolence for the talented leg-spinner. Pathan replied to Rashid and wrote. “Inna liallahi wa inna ilaihi rajioun. May Allah give you and your family the strength to ease your pain brother.”

Rashid Khan was set to play for the Sunrisers in the 2020 IPL, which had to be postponed due to the lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. It goes without saying that Rashid has ruled the roost as far as the T20 format is concerned. At the age of 21, he has 296 wickets in the format from 211 matches at a stupendous average of 17.22.
He last played for Afghanistan in the T20I tri-nation series against Ireland in India back in March. He is also expected to be a part of the Afghans’ maiden day-night Test against Australia later this year in Perth. In his international career, the young spinner has 245 wickets from 123 matches.
