The Big Bash League 2020-21 is considered as one of the best T20 leagues in the world. After the cash-rich Indian Premier League, BBL is one tournament which has been time and again credited for high-quality cricket and match situations. However, there is one aspect on which the Big Bash League has faced a lot of heat this year.
From the opening match of the BBL 2020-21, the decision of Cricket Australia to not add Decision Review System or DRS in the league was criticised by many cricket fans and experts. But, poor umpiring decisions from the officials have once again spiked up the conversation regarding this move by CA.
The umpiring standards during the ongoing season of the BBL have been quite poor. Many players have been wrongly given out, which has led to results and match situations being tilted on its head. On Friday, the same thing happened once again and England cricketer Ben Stokes took to Twitter to criticise the decision of not having the DRS in the tournament.
It can soooo easily be fixed says Ben Stokes on BBL howlers
During the Qualifier match in the BBL finals, Perth Scorchers batsman Mitchell Marsh was given out, wrongly. The ball seemed away from Marsh and went down the leg side. The bowler appealed and the umpire gave him out. Marsh kept standing there for a while in disbelief of what had just taken place, before slowly walking off. The replays showed clearly that there was a big gap between the bat and the ball that was passing from it.
Ben Stokes who is currently in India with the England team decided to put a tweet on the matter. He wrote, “DRS isn’t there to make the umpires look bad Why on earth aren’t all competitions using it, it’s frustrating to watch something like that happen when it can sooooo easily be fixed.”

The match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers was marred by another controversy later on. Andrew Tye allegedly denied James Vince a century by bowling a wide ball when Sydney needed just another run to win. Sydney Sixers have now qualified for the finals of the tournament.
