Mohammad Amir, the Pakistan left-arm fast bowler, has been grabbing the headlines for quite some time. To start with, he impressed one and all in the 2019 World Cup where he was his team’s leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets. At a time when he was starting to find his rhythm back, the southpaw decided to spring a huge surprise, hanging his boots from Test cricket with immediate effect.
After his retirement, the likes of Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar slammed him. He made his debut back in 2009 and ended up playing 36 Tests in which he picked up 119 wickets. His last appearance in whites was back in 2019 against South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Recently, Amir has again managed to hog the limelight as he has been reported to have plans of shifting to England.
The 27-year-old is trying to obtain a British passport and has applied for a spouse visa. The speedster’s better-half Nargis Malik is a British citizen. Getting the visa will mean that the Gujjar Khan-born cricketer can stay in England for 30 months and it has also been known that he is planning to buy a home in London. Amir will also get other benefits of the spouse visa.
However, he might face a roadblock as he has previously been jailed in the UK owing to the spot-fixing scandal back in 2010. Meanwhile, Saj Sadiq, a Pakistan journalist, asked why there’s so much commotion surrounding Amir as the bowler will still be eligible to play for his nation.
Mohammad Amir clarifies
Replying to his tweet, a fan wrote: “I think he should leave from terrorist country”. Amir didn’t appreciate the tweet by any means and blocked the user, who shared a screenshot of the same on social media. But, prior to that Amir had liked the same tweet and it sparked a bit of controversy.
Realising his initial mistake, Amir took to Twitter and said that he liked the tweet in error and he was trying to like the other one. The talented seamer took to Twitter and wrote, “No sir by mistake I liked that tweet I was trying to like other tweets,”
Here is Amir’s clarification
