The last few weeks have been challenging for Australian players who participated in the now-postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Following the abrupt suspension of the tournament, the Aussie contingent had to fly to Maldives due to the travel ban imposed by the Australian government. Nevertheless, all the players and staff members landed in Australia last week after spending 13 days in the island nation. Dashing opener David Warner is also back Down Under, and his wife Candice is delighted.
At the time of season suspension, the second wave of COVID-19 was wreaking havoc in India. Moreover, many players and staff members also contracted the virus despite being in the bio-secure bubble. Hence, Candice and her daughters Ivy, Indi, and Isla were worried, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener being in the COVID-ravaged country. On Wednesday, Warner’s wife opened up about the bitter experience her family went through.
My daughters can feel and understand what is going on: Candice Warner
“It was difficult but even more for my daughters, who are now at the age where they can feel and understand what is going on. I thought they were a bit oblivious to the situation but when they’re seeing things on the news or parents at school are coming up asking how their dad is or how David is, I guess that was really hard for us,” she said on The Morning Show.
Candice further added that the left-handed batsman is very close with his kids. Hence, his daughters are counting days on calendar. Notably, the 34-year-old is currently serving 14-day isolation in Sydney and has to wait some more days to reunite with his family.
“David is such a hands-on father. He is the larrikin, the one that entertains the kids and the girls can’t wait to have their father home,” Candice asserted.
Meanwhile, Warner might not be able to spend a lot of time at home as he has been named in Australia’s preliminary squad touring meeting West Indies in July. The Aussies will travel to the Caribbean islands for five T20Is and three ODIs, starting from July 10. It would indeed be a great chance of preparation for both teams with the ICC T20 World T20 scheduled to take place later this year in India.
