Ravi Shastri, Team India’s current head coach has been frequently sharing throwback pictures at a time when the whole world is battling COVID-19 outbreak. Now, he has come out with another picture from his memories where he can be seen standing alongside Ranji Trophy legend Amol Muzumdar.
The aforementioned players played for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy but in different eras. Muzumdar scored more than 10,000 runs in first-class cricket. However, he didn’t get a single opportunity to play for Team India. Many cricketing legends also rated him as an international talent. But in his case, talent was beaten by lack of luck.
He played in the era when Men in Blue had a settled middle-order combination with many legends in it like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman. He was quite different from other players of his time. The 45-year-old was a very matured middle-order batsman with all the requisites to play for the national side. Also, he was never involved in any kind of controversy on or off the filed.
Ravi Shastri shares a throwback picture for his fans
Shastri took to his official Twitter handle and shared a still alongside Amol Muzumdar. He also gave a heartwarming caption to his post that read, “With one of #RanjiTrophy giants – @amolmuzumdar11. My last season was his first. I still believe it was #TeamIndia’s loss to not see him in whites. #GentleGiant #Mumbai @MumbaiCricAssoc.”
It was clearly visible that Shastri still feels that it was Team India’s loss that the Mumbai born cricketer never played for them in international cricket. After bidding adieu to all forms of cricket, Muzumdar picked coaching as his future.
He was appointed as the batting coach of South Africa for three-match Test series against India back in 2019. The former cricketer holds a relevant experience of mentoring Rajasthan Royals, India U-19 and U-23 sides.
Recently, Shastri had also shared his prayers for the safety and well-being of everyone who has been affected due to Cyclone Amphan.
