ICC is considering an idea of introducing an idea of four-Day Test matches going into the future. However, they have not got much support from the cricketing fraternity over the same. And now, VVS Laxman, the former Indian batsman has given his opinion and said that he is not a fan of four-day Test matches.
International Cricket Council (ICC) is looking forward to opting the aforementioned format from 2023 World Test Championship. Earlier, former cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir had shown their doubts over the proposed idea. Even, Ravi Shastri, the current Team India coach, had said that if ICC should keep the top six nations away from their experiment and quoted it as ‘nonsense’.
VVS Laxman doesn’t find ICC’s idea interesting
In a recent interview, VVS Laxman also said that he is not a big fan of four-day games. According to Laxman, five-day Tests will always help the teams to come out with desired results. Laxman also said that everyone wants to see teams travelling and winning matches on away grounds in order to raise the excitement for spectators.
“I am not really a fan of this four-day Test cricket, five days fits perfect because it gets more results and reducing it the four days will not achieve the desired results according to me,” Laxman said while speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’ show.
“Another point aspect is the toss, especially during the overseas tour the captain from the visiting side gets to decide what he wants to choose because we want to see teams travelling and winning matches on away turf which makes it more interesting for spectators,” he added.
As per the reports, the main reason behind ICC considering an idea of the four-day game is that they want to enhance the window for staging their events, cost of organizing a Test series and BCCI’s demand for their bilateral calendar.
