India lost to New Zealand in the second Test and also lost the two-match series by 2-0. This is also their first series loss in the ICC World Test Championship. While they are topping the points table even after the consecutive losses, the number 1 Test team’s credentials are being questioned as their batsmen failed to counter swing eventually going down meekly.
Even the Indian skipper Virat Kohli had a lean series where he failed to cross 20 in four innings. Apart from his batting failure, his nice behaviour on the tour has been the talking point on social media as well. Though nothing ‘nice’ was on display on the field when the Indian bowlers helped the team make a stunning comeback on the second day of the Test.
While Kohli was seen giving a send-off to his counterpart Kane Williamson, he was also involved in a banter with a section of the crowd at the Hagley Oval. He was also caught gesturing ‘Shut the f**k up’ to the crowd after picking the wicket of one of the New Zealand batsmen.
The Indian batsmen, on the third day, was once again heard saying a rather controversial statement during New Zealand’s second innings when the visitors were defending 131.
Virat Kohli was standing in the slips for the majority of the innings where he was heard saying, “Jab India mein yeh log aatengey, tab dikha doonga (I will show them when they come to India),” according to Indian Express.
Virat Kohli’s India extremely dominant at home
While it is wrong on Kohli’s part to make such a statement if he has actually said it, it also shows his confidence while playing at home. In the previous home season, the number 1 Test side won all their Test matches, blanking South Africa and Bangladesh comfortably in three and two-match series respectively.
They are yet to lose a Test series at home since the 2012/13 when they went down to England. In the last few series, they have literally become invincible and have lost only a solitary Test to Australia in 2017 while winning most.
It will be interesting to see now how New Zealand perform when they travel to India next time around for a Test series.
