From late August to the mid of November, the Indian Premier League hogged the headlines. During the tournament, a number of big players couldn’t stand up to the expectations. Two of them were James Neesham and Glenn Maxwell, who both plied their trade for the Kings XI Punjab, captained by KL Rahul. The team won five games on the trot but couldn’t qualify for the playoffs.
Maxwell played from the very first game and kept tasting one failure after the other. Yet the Punjab-based team kept persisting with him. The right-hander scored a few in the 30s, but the surprising fact was that he was not able to hit a single six. The Victorian did bring in some utility with his bowling, though he was only used as a part-time bowler by his skipper Rahul.
Neesham and Maxwell making a comeback
Neesham, on the other hand, didn’t get to play a whole lot of matches. However, both Neesham and Maxwell came back at their very best after the resumption of international cricket. Maxwell scored 45 runs off 19 balls against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Batting at number five, he managed to hit five fours and three sixes and played at a stupendous strike-rate of 236.84.
He was a tad disappointing with the ball as he leaked 55 runs from 40 balls, conceding three fours and four sixes. However, his team won by 66 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Neesham, on the other hand, went for 32 runs in the nine balls he bowled against West Indies in New Zealand’s opening T20I on Friday at the Eden Park in Auckland.
But then, he made up for the knock, scoring 48 runs off 24 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. In the meantime, a meme did the rounds on social media where KL Rahul was seen in a disappointing mode.
Neesham captioned the picture and wrote, “Hahaha that’s actually pretty good @Gmaxi_32.” Interestingly, the photo was taken from India’s match against Pakistan in the 2020 World Cup at the Old Trafford in Manchester.
