Jasprit Bumrah, the young Indian pacer has significantly recovered from his stress fracture and has started off training under the trainer, who was rejected by Cricket Committee of Administrator (CoA) earlier this year in August for the post of Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Bumrah is getting trained at Mumbai Cricket Association under Rajnikanth Sivagnanam, who is also the strength and fitness trainer of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals as well. He is the consultant of Delhi-based franchise but Rajnikanth also works independently with other players in the country.
Jasprit Bumrah trainer gets support from a BCCI official
A BCCI official took a dig over the selection procedure of CoA, who had picked Nick Webb for the post of Conditioning Coach over Sivagnanam. He said that the process was harder for the current Delhi Capitals trainer in comparison to anyone else. He was asked to perform tough drills in comparison to others during the qualification test.
“This is not a judgment on Nick in any way, but the process was harder for Rajni than anyone else. I had enquired from a member of the panel who was surprised at the apparent hostility towards Rajni. He was asked to do things by the gym trainer on the panel that no one else was. What was curious was that the person on the panel had not worked at the level that Rajni had worked at. It would be interesting to know who placed him on the panel,” a BCCI official said as quoted by NDTV Sports.
Bumrah sustained a back injury during September because of which he did not play in the T20I and Test series against South Africa and Bangladesh. The speedster will not be available for the West Indies T20I and ODI series as well.
However, the team management is expecting him to be back in the team ahead of the important tour to New Zealand that will begin from 24th January 2020 with five-match T20I series followed by three-ODIs and two Tests. He will be a key bowler for Virat Kohli and Co. when they lock horns with New Zealand.
