Virat Kohli and Steve Smith have been fighting a war of supremacy between them in Test cricket. Kohli is currently serving as Indian skipper against South Africa in the home series whereas Steve Smith, the former captain of Australia is back in the form of his life.
After Steve Smith dethroned the Indian skipper in Test batsmen’s rankings, the debate about who is the best in the world has opened. It is difficult to choose if we are asked to pick one out of them, but South African former cricketer Jonty Rhodes has picked the best between the two.
Steve Smith was in exceptional form during the Ashes 2019 after coming out of a year-long ban. Jonty Rhodes who is regarded as one of the best fielders of all time has come out with different opinions over the best fielders and batsmen in the world in an interview to The New Indian Express.
In Jonty Rhodes opinion, he prefers watching the Indian skipper over Steve Smith while explaining the difference in their techniques of scoring runs. Rhodes feels Smith’s technique is the ugliest he has seen till date, “I enjoy watching Virat Kohli. His shots amaze me, and sometimes it looks like that how on earth can he hit like that. Steve Smith, with that action and technique, makes the ugliest hundreds I have ever seen but the man just keeps scoring runs.”
Rhodes picks the current best fielder
When asked to pick the current best fielder, Rhodes easily picked Martin Guptill and India’s Ravindra Jadeja among the best fielders currently, but due to less game time given to the Indian fielder, he chose Kiwi over the Indian, “Jadeja doesn’t get enough cricket time. Guptill is playing every game. Guptill is great in the slips, great in the covers, great in the boundaries. He is a great all-round fielder, Jadeja has got the X factor. There are really good fielders out there but Guptill for me stands out,” the former South African cricketer said.
Currently, South Africa is on their away tour to India for three-match T20I and Test series. Proteas are moving through a rough patch after their flop campaign in World Cup 2019, but now, it is a great chance for SA to get back on track against India.
