Former Pakistan and Karachi Kings’ coach Mickey Arthur has revealed that he misses being part of the Pakistan Super League tournament. The South African was part of the four previous seasons of the T20 league, associated with the Karachi Kings’ outfit. He also praised the quality of the tournament, which is being played in the country as a whole for the first time.
The Kings’ have made it into the playoffs in all the four previous editions of the tournament with two, third position finishes in 2017 and 2018. Arthur had coached the team nicely for his duration and then was replaced by Dean Jones for the 2019 season. Arthur also lost his job as Pakistan head coach in 2019 as well in the aftermath of that year’s World Cup when the Men in Green failed to make it into the semi-finals.
‘PSL is a fantastic tournament and I miss it’: Mickey Arthur
Mickey Arthur is currently the head coach of the Sri Lankan team. However, it seems he still misses being part of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the unit of Karachi Kings.
“PSL is a fantastic tournament and I love it. It has done wonders for Pakistan cricket. The standard of cricket is great and everything that goes with it is fantastic. I do miss PSL but obviously I’m with Sri Lanka now and I’m enjoying it,” Arthur was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. “Karachi Kings Zindabad,” he also added.
Earlier, Karachi Kings captain Babar Azam also had mentioned that the team was missing the guidance of Arthur, who was replaced by Islamabad United head coach and former Australia cricketer Dean Jones. However, Azam was excited to work with the new coach as he looks to take the franchise forward and possibly towards the title.
“We obviously miss him [Arthur] since we have really good memories with him. However, we cannot dwell on the past and need to move forward,” Babar has said after his team’s win over Peshawar Zalmi on Friday. Karachi Kings have played three matches in the ongoing season of the tournament and have won only one match so far. They will be playing Islamabad United on March 1, and Peshawar Zalmi on March 2, with both matches being played in Rawalpindi.
