KL Rahul just cannot stop winning hearts at the moment. On the field, he has been doing extremely well no matter what has he been asked to do. In the ODI series against Australia, Rahul gave another example of just how versatile he is. In all the three matches, he batted at different positions and managed to leave his mark.
He batted at number three in the first game and scored 46. In the second game, he batted at number five and slammed 80 from just 52 balls to help India win the game and draw level in the series. In the series-decider, he was asked to open after Shikhar Dhawan suffered a shoulder injury. Not only that, but Rahul had to also keep the wickets in all the three games after Rishabh Pant suffered a concussion.
And his wicketkeeping was so impressive that Indian team-management has decided to persist with him in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Virat Kohli, on Thursday, stated that Rahul would open the batting in T20Is and would also keep the wickets.
KL Rahul donates INR 2 lakhs to animal rights activist
KL Rahul is winning hearts not only with his performances on the field but also with his gestures off the field. The India batting star recently donated INR 2 lakhs to animal rights activist Shravan Krishnan reward for animal welfare. Rahul had told Krishnan that he would donate the money as soon as he received his next man of the match award. On January 17, in the second ODI against Australia, Rahul bagged the award and received a prize of INR 1 lakh.
“I knew he would send the money right after he won. But what surprised me was that he had sent double the amount that he won,” Shravan was quoted as saying by News Minute. “He transferred a total of Rs. 2 lakh to the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary (BMAD),” he added.
The dispensary acts as an outreach programme for animal welfare at the Theosophical Society and Shravan is the centre’s coordinator. As a former cricketer who represented Tamil Nadu, he had met KL Rahul multiple on and off the field. The two men had even attended South Zone camps together in the past.
“Rahul and I have always been in touch and when I put photos of injured animals on Instagram he would tell me that it was difficult to even look at them. He always said that he can’t be hands on and help us at the centre but that we should contact him for any financial assistance,” revealed Shravan.
