Kanhaiya Kumar, the CPI leader and JNUSU president, has come down heavily on Amit Shah, the Union Minister. He lashed out at the ones including Shah, who question the ‘merit’ of the students, coming to study at the JNU. Kanhaiya went on to ask what merit did Jay Shah, Amit Shah’s son, have in becoming the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
On January 5, 50 masked people with rods, sticks and acids attacked the JNU campus and injured more than 39 teachers and students. The ones, who witnessed the horrendous occurring, said that the police within the campus didn’t intervene to stop the carnage. Kanhaiya Kumar didn’t miss out on venting his anger out on Amit Shah and his son.
“You talk of merit. Kya merit hai aapke lalla ka? (What’s the merit of your son?) What is Jay Shah’s merit? Except the fact that his face is a carbon copy of Amit Shah’s, what is that man’s merit? How has he been made the BCCI secretary?” Kumar asked while addressing a large crowd.
Kanhaiya Kumar supports Deepika Padukone
Kumar has also supported Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone for standing by the ones affected in the incident. The heroine visited the JNU campus and met the JNSU president Aishe Ghosh, who was also attacked.
“She did not say anything. She didn’t take Modi’s name. She didn’t take Mota Bhai’s name. There was no discussion on his son Jay Shah. She didn’t even ask why he became the BCCI secretary. She didn’t say anything, just met the injured students and left,” he added.
“… She didn’t raise any slogan, so why are people boycotting her film? This means supporters of this government accept that they were the ones who indulged in campus violence,” Kumar stated.
Deepika has been a recipient of criticism, especially by the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Talks of even boycotting her film ‘Chhapaak’ also did the rounds.
Union Minister Smriti Irani also bashed her for standing next to people who celebrate every time a CRPF jawan is killed. But the actress has been praised for standing up against the wrongdoers.
