MS Dhoni’s retirement talks have been grabbing the headlines for quite a while now. Most of the people from experts to commoners have had their say on whether it’s time for the veteran to call it a day from the sport or not. The speculations haven’t gone down well with Syed Kirmani, the former Indian cricketer by any means. He urged all to stop the constant commotions about Dhoni’s retirement.
Kirmani, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, is proud of the 38-year-old. The veteran said that he’s the best ever captain for India and has helped the national team scale greater heights. Kirmani, also a keeper during his playing days, mentioned that Dhoni is a role model for the young generation and people should refrain from interfering in his decisions.
It’s Dhoni’s decision,
“Leave him alone. There will be a time when he will retire, but we must stop talking about his retirement now. The way he has captained the Indian team, he’s the best captain ever. He has taken the Indian team to the highest level in Test cricket, in ODI, in T20s,” Kirmani was quoted as saying by the Times of India on the sidelines of the launch of six outlets of Hearting Solutions.
“Dhoni should stay as he’s a big role model for the young Indian cricketers. He must stay. He already has stepped aside from Tests. It’s his decision. We should not interfere. Has anyone else earned such fame like Dhoni?” he added.
Kirmani said that the questions surrounding who’ll replace Dhoni are pretty common when a wicketkeeper reaches the twilight of his career. Dhoni has recently been communicated that he won’t be India’s first-choice keeper going ahead in the future.
“When Farokh Engineer was in the fag end of his career, everyone was saying who’s next and then Syed Kirmani came, then came Kiran More and Dhoni. Someone will definitely take his place. We have three-four talented wicket keepers in the reckoning. Wicketkeeping is not an easy aspect in cricket,” Kirmani remarked.
MS Dhoni last played in the 2019 World Cup where he blew a tad hot and cold. Thereafter, he took a two-month break from cricket in order to serve the Indian Army. He didn’t play the ODI and T20I series in the West Indies. It now remains to be seen if and when he returns to don the national jersey.
