Indian cricket has improved a lot in the past couple of decades. Since 2000, India has taken giant strides as a cricketing nation and has been improving its game with time. Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, who is now serving as the Prime Minister of the country, in interaction has said that Indian cricket has improved because of its basic structure.
Along with the position of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan is also patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board and nominates its chairman. In the same interaction, Khan stated that Pakistan is not too far from becoming a world-beater as they have also started to focus on the basic structure like India.
Even after stating that the Indian team is at the top of the world right now, the former captain also said that Pakistan has more talent than India. “Look at India today, they are becoming a top team in the world because they improved their structure although we have more talent. It takes time for a structure to work and polish talent, but I am confident our team will become world-beaters,” Imran Khan was quoted saying by WION.
Our basic cricket structure has been changed, things will improve gradually: Imran Khan
While speaking about cricket in Pakistan and the performances of the national team, Khan also expressed that he is not able to watch the matches. However, he showed faith in the current structure which Pakistan Cricket Board has put in and said that gradually things will change.
“Honestly speaking I am not able to spare time for cricket and have not even watched the matches but now that our basic cricket structure has been changed things will improve gradually,” added Imran Khan.
In 2018, PCB decided to change its overall domestic structure. From the 16 regional teams which they had, PCB shrunk the domestic structure of cricket to only six provincial teams. This was done to have more competitive cricket around the domestic structure.
The comparisons between India and Pakistan has been done in world cricket through the 1980s and 1990s, however, at the turn of the century, Indian cricket started showing great signs of improvement. The two nations have not played a bilateral series for a long time due to political tensions.
