Among the few fast bowlers who dominate the cricketing world today is Lungi Ngidi from South Africa. The 23-year-old had made an impressive debut against India at home last year by picking up a five-wicket haul to help his team win and bag the man of the match award. Soon after, Ngidi was roped in by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League 2018 and he won the crown in his debut year in the T20 tournament.
An injured Ngidi missed the IPL this year after picking up 11 wickets in seven matches last year. He couldn’t play in more than four matches in the ICC World Cup either because of the injury and claimed seven scalps in those appearances. However, irrespective of his irregular play, Ngidi has gained quite a fan following on the social media.
His name sounds similar to the popular South Indian attire ‘lungi’ and fans asked him whether he has seen or danced to the song ‘Lungi Dance’ from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Chennai Express’. To their pleasant surprise, Ngidi said he has indeed listened to the song during his stint at the IPL and added that he loved the rhythmic song and danced to it a video of which later went viral. The South African cricketer took his admiration for the popular number to the next level.
Just listened to the #LungiDance song loving it already ❤😂

Ngidi to play India in upcoming Test series
Ngidi recently played for South Africa ‘A’ against India ‘A’ in an unofficial Test in Thiruvananthapuram. Although the Proteas colts lost the match by seven wickets, Ngidi spearheaded the bowling attack with seven wickets in the match. He has not been picked for the T20I series against India that kicked off on Sunday (the first game in Dharamsala was washed out).
The pacer, however, has been picked for the Test series against India starting October 2. Ngidi has played in four Test matches so far with a wicket tally of 15.
