Prithvi Shaw’s promising start to his career has been taken aback by a six-month suspension. The 19-year-old Mumbai batsman has been slapped with a six-month ban due to violating doping regulations.
An official release from the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) stated that Shaw had consumed prohibited drugs or substances during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this year. Thus, subsequently, he has been barred from cricketing action till November 15 later this year. The ban is in effect since March 15.
Shaw has been left out of the Indian Test team as he is nursing a hip injury. However, he will not be allowed to use the club facilities until September 15 and will remain unavailable for selection until mid-November. Thus, he will miss the start of India’s home season against South Africa. He can make a comeback in the Test team when Bangladesh tour of India for a two-match Test series.
Manoj Tiwary believes these mistakes happen
After Prithvi Shaw was slapped with the suspension, he took to Twitter to not only express his disappointment but also accept his mistake. He was out of action for a few months due to a toe injury since the tour of Australia. He returned during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in February-March earlier this year.
However, he revealed that he had a severe cough and cold during the tournament which led him to take medication which included a cough syrup in which the prohibited substance was found. He also acknowledged the importance of the following protocol and being careful about every intake.
Thus, Shaw has accepted his mistake. Manoj Tiwary has been quite vocal about various views on Twitter in the recent past and he came out in support of the former U-19 World Cup-winning skipper. He felt that such mistakes are bound to happen when it comes to sports-related substances. He applauded Shaw for coming out in the open and sending out a statement. Tiwary wished that the 19-year-old opener the best and believes that he will come back more focused and stronger.
Here is what Tiwary tweeted:
Gud that u hav come up wit dis. Mistakes does happen and specially wen it’s sports related substances. I’m sure u will come back more focused and stronger. Best wishes always 😊
