Michael Vaughan finds a way to stay in the limelight. The former England captain had earlier declared that Australia would whitewash the visitors on Australian soil. Then, when India sensationally came back with a win in Melbourne after being shot out for just 36 in the first Test at Adelaide, he predicted that Australia will win the series 3-1.
However, Vaughan was made to swallow his own words, as the Indian side stood up to the Australians, and beat them 2-1 on Australian soil. It was a complete team effort by the Indian side, and they even inflicted a defeat on the Aussies at their own fortress, The Gabba.
And now, Vaughan has once again stirred up social media with a controversial tweet. He has put out some stats, to prove that Joe Root is a better player of spin than Virat Kohli. Vaughan has argued that Root averages 70.7 against spin, whereas Kohli averages marginally lesser at 69.0. And against off-spin, Root averages 71.2, and Kohli averages just 53.1. So, he has concluded that Root is a better -player of spin than Kohli. This is Vaughan’s tweet.

Vaughan draws the ire of fans on Twitter
And, the Indian fans have come to Kohli’s rescue and many of them have gone ahead and bashed Vaughan for his tweet. One user has said that Vaughan has ignored the fact that Kohli has played a lot more in spin-friendly conditions as compared to Root. Another user cheekily said that except for one billion people in India, everybody will agree to his statement.
Another user has warned the former England skipper that he is starting a war on social media. Yet another fan asked the former England skipper whether he has conveniently ignored both of their records against leg-spin. Another user has asked Vaughan to wait till the end of the Test series, so that the truth will come out.
All in all, Vaughan is facing the heat from the fans for his controversial tweet. As far as the first Test is concerned, the England side is at the driver’s seat at the moment. After piling up a massive total of 578 runs on the board, they have reduced India to 214/5, at the time of writing.
