Steve Smith is currently spending his time at home in the quarantine period due to the coronavirus pandemic across the globe. Having last played in Australia’s T20I against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Smith’s next assignment on the field isn’t known yet. There’s already enough misery all around the world and of late, Smith has been dealt with another telling blow.
His pet dog Charlie passed away and the top-order batsmen took to Instagram to share the update. It goes without saying that he was absolutely devastated by the development. Recently, a number of the cricketers, including Kane Williamson and Marnus Labuschagne, have been doing slip catching drills with their pet dogs. But for Smith, the situation isn’t a pleasant one.
The 30-year-old uploaded three pictures and along with his dog and also wife Danny Willis. He captioned the pictures and wrote “Very sad to say goodbye to our little family member. Charlie was so loving, loyal and just an all-round legend. I miss you already little man. Rest In Peace.”

Smith to play for the Royals
Had the COVID-19 outbreak not happened, Smith would have been busy playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The start of the T20 tournament was earlier delayed from March 29 to April 15. However, after Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended India’s lockdown until May 3, the future of the IPL looks even more bleak.
Last year, Smith made his return to the IPL for the Royals. Midway through the season, he was also appointed as the skipper, replacing Ajinkya Rahane. With the latter being traded to the Delhi Capitals, Smith was also set to lead the Royals in the next edition. In his stint with them, Smith hasn’t flattered to deceive and has turned up with quite a few match-winning performances.
For the Aussies, he has been a revelation. Currently, he has the third best average in Tests after the legendary Sir Don Bradman and Marnus Labuschagne. Even in ODIs and T20Is, Smith has managed to show his sheer class and elegance.
