Mominul Haque has been named as the skipper of the Bangladesh ‘A’ team, which is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka. The southpaw has been a prolific run scorer for the senior team in the last year or so and was also a part of the only Test against Afghanistan in Chattogram. Among notable names, Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have also been included in the ‘A’ squad.
Soumya was a part of the Tigers in the ongoing tri-nation series, also involving Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. But after having scored 4 and 0 in his first two games, he was one of the four players to face the axe. He couldn’t deliver even in the one-off Test versus Rashid Khan and Co. Mehidy last played limited-overs cricket back in the Sri Lanka tour and was left out for the tri-nation series.
As far as the upcoming tour is concerned, Bangladesh ‘A’ are set to play a couple of four-day matches and three one dayers against Sri Lanka ‘A’ from September 23 to October 12. The squad also includes the likes of Abu Jayed Rahi, Shadman Islam and Mohammad Mithun.
Saif Hassan to take charge of U23 side
The national selectors have also put forth an Under-23 Bangladesh ‘A’ team that will play five one dayers in India at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Saif Hassan will be in charge of the team. The matches will take place from September 19 to 27. It means once the U23 games end, the 20-year-old Hassan will fly to Sri Lanka to represent the ‘A’ team under Mominul.
Shafiqul Islam, Tanvir Islam and Sumon Khan were shifted from the ‘A’ side to the Under-23 team. The Under-23 squad also includes capped players in Ariful Haque, Zakir Hasan and Mahedi Hasan. Mahedi was a part of the tri-nation T20I series, but was dropped after the first two encounters.
