MS Dhoni continues to be in the news even after his international retirement. The legendary Indian cricketer became just the second cricketer ever, to amass 30 million followers on Instagram. In fact, Dhoni had even announced his retirement from the game with a simple post on the social media platform.
His retirement post has garnered a colossal 37.2 million views thus far. Dhoni is someone who does not engage himself too much on social media. In fact, ever since he joined Instagram, the cricketing icon has posted just 108 times. Moreover, in the last one year, Dhoni has posted just three times on Instagram, Surely, that tells us the about the enigma that Dhoni is.
As far as the following on Instagram goes, Virat Kohli is currently topping the list with a whopping 88.7 million followers. In fact, Kohli is the only Indian to have over 80 Million followers on Instagram, and it is only a matter of time before he breaches the magical mark of 100 Million followers. In stark contrast to Dhoni, Kohli has posted 1109 times on Instagram.

After Dhoni and Kohli, the third place is occupied by batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. The ‘God of Cricket’ has 27.5 Million followers on Instagram, and keeps engaging with the fans with frequent posts on the platform. Tendulkar has posted 786 times on Instagram till now.
As far as Dhoni is concerned, he will next be seen in action in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL). The CSK skipper had emphatically declared in 2020, that he will return back to lead the Chennai Super Kings(CSK) side in the 14th edition of the IPL. In the 2020 IPL season, Dhoni and CSK endured a disastrous campaign after the side failed to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time and finished at the 7th place.
The former Indian skipper is the fifth highest run scorer for India in ODI cricket and has appeared in 350 ODI matches. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 10773 runs in the ODI format and scored his runs at an average of 50.58. Dhoni has also scored 4876 runs in Test cricket and 1617 runs in the T20I’s.
And of course, as a captain he has led his country to numerous accolades. It was under Dhoni that India lifted their maiden T20 World Cup in 2007, it was under him that the Indian side won their second fifty over World Cup in 2011, and Dhoni even led India to a Champions Trophy win in the year 2013.
