India is under 21-day lockdown since April 25 amid the Coronavirus outbreak. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested the nation to stay at home while announcing the lockdown earlier this week in order to break the chain of the pandemic. While many have been suffering due to the lockdown, the daily wage workers and their families are affected the most.

Maharashtra is one of the worst affected states in the country with more than 120 cases. And Pune, like Mumbai, has witnessed more Coronavirus patients in the state to date. And to help the daily wage workers in the city, the former India skipper MS Dhoni has come forward. He has donated Rs 1 lakh via crowd funding website Ketto to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, public charitable trust in Pune.

The donations made to this website will be used to provide daily grocery essentials to the families of the daily wage workers in the city. MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi shared the link of the same on her Instagram story urging people to come forward and lend a helping hand. The fundraiser has set a goal of achieving Rs 12.5 lakh for the noble cause and the 38-year-old is the highest donor in the list at the moment.

In fact, after knowing about MS Dhoni’s donation, many people have come forward and donated and so far, more than Rs 12 lakh have been raised.

MS Dhoni’s Pune connection

MS Dhoni is closely connected to Pune as he featured for the franchise Rising Pune Supergiant for two IPL season in 2016 and 2017 after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was banned from the league due to spot-fixing scandal. While he led the team in its inaugural season, Dhoni played under Steve Smith’s leadership the following year when the team made it to the final only to lose to Mumbai Indians (MI).

Meanwhile, apart from MS Dhoni, the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan have also come forward to lend their helping hand to the poor people due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh while the Pathan brothers have donated face masks in order to help people stay safe from the deadly virus.
