The world is well versed with magnetic aura skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni possessed on and off the field. Ever since the news of his retirement is doing rounds on social media, fans can’t stop giving tribute to him in their own special ways. Another such incident has come to light where MSD’s Pakistan born fan, Mohammad Bashir Bozai aka ‘Chacha Chicago’ has vowed to give up watching India-Pakistan play at ICC tournaments.
Travelling across the globe to watch arch-rivals lock horns at ICC events won’t make sense anymore to ‘Chacha Chicago’, who also experienced abuses from Pakistan audience while he displayed his love for Dhoni. The old man instead has plans to go to skipper’s home town Ranchi to offer him good wishes.
“Dhoni has retired and so have I. I don’t see myself travelling for cricket again with him not being around. I loved him and he loved me back,” said Bashir as quoted by India Today.
“All great players have to call time one day but his retiring makes me sad and brings back a lot of precious memories. He deserved a grand send-off but again he is beyond that,” he added.
How did the bond between Chacha Chicago and Dhoni bloom?
Bashir and Captain cool developed an unspoken bond after 2011 World Cup semi-final between Indian and Pakistan. The ticket for the most awaited match of the tournament at Mohali was definitely out of Chacha’s budget, but Dhoni arranged it for him and hereafter began Bashir’s unconditional love for our skipper.
According to reports, the old man has survived three heart attacks, but still managed to cross boundaries for MS all the time. The game of cricket won’t be the same for him as he wouldn’t be able to see his captain marking presence on the international field post retirement. Having said all that, ‘Chacha Chicago’ still wishes to go to MSD’s hometown and load him with wishes for his life beyond this point.
“I will go to his house in Ranchi when things get normal (post COVID-19 pandemic). That is the least I can do to wish him all the best for the future. I will also ask Ram Babu (another super fan, from Mohali, to come with me),” said Bashir.
The thing that made the bond even more special between them was, MSD was there to help the old man even before he could ask. When captain couldn’t reach out with tickets to him, he sent someone some support staff but indirectly he was always there.
