Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may not be involved with the national side since the Men in Blue’s heartbreaking exit from the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, but the champion cricketer continues to flare up headlines on a timely basis. Dhoni has been on a sabbatical ever since India lost the World Cup semi-final to New Zealand since July.
The former captain had opted out from the West Indies tour in July after he went on a fifteen-day training with the Indian army while also opting out for the subsequent home series against South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies. Dhoni’s absence and his impending cricketing future have been a source of debate among the fans as well as media in the past few months.
But despite all the debates and headlines, Dhoni has been very busy these days in attending public functions. And, in a recent video that surfaced on social media, the former three-time ICC World events- ICC T20 World Cup 2007, ICC World Cup 2011 & 2013 Champions Trophy- Dhoni sent all his fans in a dizzy when he sang a few lines of a popular Hindi song,’ Mai pal do pal ka shayar hoon’ from one of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic movie Kabhie Kabhie (1976).

“January tak mat poochna”- MS Dhoni had said on his future a few days ago
While Dhoni has himself asked the media to not ask any question regarding his International future till January, speculations are rife that the former Indian stalwart may well take a call on his career following his exploits in the upcoming Indian Premier League. Earlier Indian coach Ravi Shastri had also mentioned that Dhoni’s comeback into the national side could well depend on how he and his fellow wicketkeepers shape up in the IPL.
“It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni’s form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided,” Shastri had said as quoted by The Times of India.
“There might be one player who might be there and thereabouts in case of an injury or whatever. But your team I would say would be known after the IPL. What I would say is rather than speculating of who is where, wait for the IPL to get over and then you are in a position to take a call on who are the best 17 in the country,” he said.
