The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll across the globe as more than 1.7 lakh deaths have occurred due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Along with human existence, the pandemic has also halted sporting scenario as all sporting events have either been called off or postponed in such a critical situation.
The much-awaited IPL 2020 has also been postponed indefinitely to tackle the pandemic. At a time when the world has been grappling against COVID-19 outbreak, many cricketers are spending time on social media.
Many prominent cricketers have resorted to Instagram live or Twitter Q&A to stay connected with their fans amid the lockdown situation. One such cricketer is Wasim Jaffer, who has been quite active on social media in recent times. Jaffer, on Wednesday, was involved in a live Instagram session with Crictracker where he answered a plethora of questions.
Jaffer opined on many much-debated topics during the Instagram live session. The veteran also picked one player between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when he was asked about the better white-ball cricketer. Jaffer responded with Virat Kohli. Both Kohli and Rohit have been the pillars of Team India in the recent couple of years. While Rohit had a scintillating 2019, he is yet to showcase his knocks in the ongoing year.
Wasim Jaffer also chooses between Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara
Jaffer also made a tough choice as he was asked to pick between the leadership skills of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. When asked to choose the better captain, Jaffer went with Dhoni’s name.
Despite Kohli’s achievement in recent years, Dhoni is regarded as one of the most successful players and captains in the history of Indian cricket. The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper-batsman played a crucial role in India’s triumph in T20 World Cup 2007 as well as 50-overs World Cup in 2011.
Jaffer also picked the better batsman between two stalwarts of the sport– Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. Jaffer chose Tendulkar as the better batsman between the two. Jaffer has shown his appreciation for Sachin in the past too where he has hailed the Master Blaster for his batting expertise.
Regarded as one of the most successful domestic cricketers, Jaffer’s First-class record showcases his worth. In 260 First-class matches, the right-hander has 19410 runs to his name at an impressive average of 50.67. The Mumbai batsman also has 57 centuries and 91 half-centuries in First-class cricket.
Donning the national jersey in 31 Tests, Jaffer struck 1944 runs at an average of 34.10 which included 5 tons and 11 half-centuries. After playing the sport for more than two decades, Jaffer announced his retirement at the age of 42 in March 2020.
