74th Independence day of India came at a very interesting time. India is stuck hard with the ongoing pandemic COVID-19 and the situation is only getting worse. The day also brought the departure of one of the biggest cricket legends the game has seen, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He did retire from the ‘Blue jersey’ but not from the hearts of his fans.
Now, the calls for the farewell match of the Ranchi stalwart are coming from all around the cricket world. Everyone just wants to capture the sight of India’s biggest match-winner hitting ‘helicopter shot’ over the fence. While Jharkhand’s Chief Minister wants to host the game at the cricketer’s hometown Ranchi, VVS Laxman, the former Indian batsman has said that Dhoni will play the farewell game in ‘Chepauk’, his adopted home since 2008.
The former captain was born in Ranchi but he is playing for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League from 2008. He has been adored like their own by the Chennai crowd and they call him ‘Thala’ out of love. Dhoni has become the face of CSK over the years and nobody can now imagine CSK without him. He has been extremely successful for the franchise as he has won the three titles in the IPL.
“Number one is we all have to recognize that he (Dhoni) is very passionate about CSK. One of the reasons CSK has been the most successful franchise has been MS Dhoni’s leadership. So, he will go out and he will do everything possible for CSK to win the trophy. But as far as the fans are concerned, I think the euphoria will be there to be seen,” Laxman said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.
MS Dhoni’s farewell game will be whenever he plays his last match for CSK: VVS Laxman
It is confirmed that Dhoni has already played his last game for Men in Blue. Laxman feels the last game of Dhoni will be for CSK in IPL and the crowd will be quite excited to see each and every moment of Dhoni. The former cricketer also mentioned that till the time Dhoni is playing professional cricket, he will captain CSK and his last game will be in Chepauk only, playing in the yellow jersey.
“I think MS Dhoni’s farewell game will be whenever he plays his last match for CSK. And I can tell you for sure, just like the way Sachin had that farewell match at the Wankhede, I think the farewell match will be at the Chepauk,” Laxman was quoted saying.
One of the most successful captains of India is yet to clarify until when he is playing the IPL. His future will depend on his fitness as he is 39 years old and wicketkeeping is a tough job to cope up with.
