Mark Calaway , popularly known as ‘The Undertaker’, has announced his retirement from the World Wrestling Entertainment. The veteran joined the company in 1990 and made his debut in November later that year and ever since then, he managed to capture the imagination of the fans. He became the World Champion seven times and also won the tag team titles six times.
In 2007, he also emerged victorious in the Royal Rumble. Even as he put forth his decision to bid goodbye, he said that he has no desire to get back into the ring and has already played his last match. Plying his trade for as many as 30 years, The Undertaker was one of the most loyal employees of the company and he also gave his fans and well-wishers plenty to cheer for.
There was a lot of thought and a lot of emotion: The Undertaker
“I believe I’m at a place now, post-Boneyard, which was a hellacious battle against one of the best in the business. Here you are, climbing on your motorcycle and taking off. There was a lot of thought and a lot of emotion, one of those being ‘are you happy enough with that?’ It was a powerful moment,” he was quoted as saying in The Last Ride.
“You don’t necessarily always get those. If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it. If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back? I guess time would only tell there. In case of emergency, break glass, you pull out The Undertaker. I would consider it. At this point in my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring,” he added.
In the meantime, on his retirement, the Mumbai Indians (MI) paid tribute to the colossal figure. The four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion, posted a picture where Rohit Sharma, their skipper, was holding the WWE title belt, which they got after winning the title in 2019.
MI took to Twitter and wrote, “30 legendary years. #ThankYouTaker #OneFamily @WWE @undertaker @ImRo45.” The 55-year Calaway has left a legacy for his next generations to follow.
