Bangladesh is always rated as one of the underdog teams in international cricket. They often come up with some surprising performances and rather have been on top of their game in the limited-overs formats. But in the past decade, their performance graph is full of inconsistency when it comes to playing the Tests. But Mushfiqur Rahim feels the current side holds the ability to get into the top six in the world.
In the last 20 years, Tigers have performed well in their own backyard in some games. However, they are yet to establish themselves as a tough opponent in the longer format. In 2019, they travelled to India for a two-match Test series in which they ended up losing on both the occasions. Bangladesh couldn’t even put up a fight in any of the match and similar has been the case in away Tests for them.
Mushfiqur Rahim says their major concern is to do well outside the country
In an interview, Mushfiqur Rahim said that the major concern for the team is to perform well in overseas conditions. He added that there are several challenges on the way going into the future. As per him, they have all the resources and talented players to get into the top six in Test team rankings.
He recited the fact that if the conditions formed due to COVID-19 outbreak come under control then they have many important Test series that they have to play in their home conditions. According to him, if Bangladesh manages to get into the top six Test teams, then a lot of their players will also improve their rankings in the format as well.
“Our concern is to do well outside the country. There are many big challenges ahead. The Test Championship is also a big challenge for us. We have the ability to come in the top six in Tests. If there’s no coronavirus, then there would be some important series at home. We had a Test series against New Zealand or Australia.
“There is also the West Indies. Every team is big, we have beaten two teams in the past. If we can stay in the top-6, then we can see some players in the top ten in the player rankings,” he was quoted as saying by bdcrictime.
