Navdeep Saini, the young fast bowler recently got his maiden call up from Team India in ODI series against West Indies. Saini was called as the replacement for injured Deepak Chahar ahead of the series decider. The speedster took the full advantage of the opportunity and registered decent bowling figures of 2/ 58 in his debut game. Now, he has opened up on his next target- to be the part of Team India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Saini got into the limelight after he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2019 Auction and he impressed the cricketing fraternity with his lethal pace. After the conclusion of the T20 tournament, he received a maiden call up from the national selectors for the shorter format and so far, he has played 5 T20Is and has grabbed six wickets. Saini is expected to be the next gem of Indian fast bowling force.
Navdeep Saini reveals his next target
The 27-year-old wants to prepare himself for every tough situation whether it is bowling in the death or with the new ball. However, his ultimate goal is to play for India in the T20 World Cup that is slated to be held next year in Australia from October. At the moment, Saini just wants to focus on the upcoming games and wants to avoid unnecessary pressure.
He also highlighted the fact that he wants to attain consistency in his bowling with the new ball. If he succeeds in his plans to bowl yorkers, then the opponent doesn’t matter. Moreover, Saini also has to be mentally strong in the tough conditions to prosper his cricketing career.
“I try to be ready for every situation, whether bowling with the new ball or at the death. The goal will be to be a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad. But there is still some time to go. If I start thinking too much about the future, it will only put unnecessary pressure. It’ll be better if I prepare for one series at a time,” said the speedster.
“I want to be consistent with the new and old ball. If I can execute my plans of hitting the lengths at the start and getting the yorkers right in the end, it really won’t matter who my opponents are. If I’m mentally strong enough, then the match situation or opposition won’t be much of a problem,” Navdeep Saini said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
